From "Maybe Someday" to "Let's Do This": My Second Cleaning Job

When I first set up the Facebook page for Eternal Care Stone Services, I did it with a mix of excitement and a good dose of realism. I was passionate about my mission, but I also understood that building a business, especially one in a unique niche like this, would take time. I fully expected that I’d have to offer a few free services—a handful of “before and after” projects for my portfolio—to build trust and show people what was possible.
I was ready for a slow start, maybe a few weeks or even months of building content before the first paid inquiry came in.
Then, on the second day after launching the page, I saw a notification. It was an email. Someone had seen my post about my aunts stone and was asking for an estimate for a headstone cleaning.
I can't even describe the surge of excitement I felt. It was a tangible sign that my idea resonated with people and that there was a real need for this service. My “maybe someday” business had just taken its first real step.
The client was seeking to have their mother's headstone cleaned. It was a humbling and heartwarming experience to be entrusted with such a personal and important task. The process of cleaning that second stone was different from my first, my Aunt Joyce’s. This time, it wasn't just a personal act of care; it was a professional one. It reinforced my commitment to doing this work with the utmost respect and care.
But it also kickstarted the next phase of my journey as a business owner. My excitement quickly turned into action. The very next day, I was on the phone, looking into business registration for a sole proprietorship in Ontario. I also began the crucial process of researching and obtaining proper business insurance. This wasn't just a hobby anymore; it was a real business with real responsibilities.
Getting that second job so quickly was the validation I needed. It proved that there’s a genuine need for a compassionate and reliable service to care for our loved ones’ final resting places. I’m incredibly grateful for that first client who trusted me with their family’s memory, and I’m now more committed than ever to building a professional, respected business that can help others honor their own legacies. This journey is just beginning, and I can't wait to share the next chapter with you all.
